When offline-first is the right product decision

Start with the environment your users work in, then choose the technology.

Start with the workflow

An unreliable connection should not stop a shop from making a sale or a user from finding a saved receipt. List the actions that must remain available without a network before selecting your architecture.

Keep the data model clear

Local storage works best when ownership, identifiers and relationships are explicit. Plan migrations and backups alongside the first schema rather than adding them after release.

Design for recovery

Make saved state visible. Give users clear feedback on exports and backups, and test recovery from a failed operation. If synchronization comes later, treat conflict handling as its own product requirement.
